Veterinary Products Laboratories (VPL) have announced that Schering-Plough Animal Health, is the official Canadian distributor of Feliway® and D.A.P.® (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) PHOENIX, Ariz. - (Dec. 4, 2003) "We are extremely pleased to secure a relationship with one of the leading companies in the Canadian veterinary community, " said Betsy Watkins, VPL's U.S. director of sales. "This partnership allows the veterinarians in Canada easy access to these products." "We are excited about this new partnership. In addition to our own research and development efforts, this will allow Schering-Plough Animal Health to bring even more new innovations to the Canadian veterinary community," said Paul Ray, companion animal product manager for Schering-Plough Animal Health, Canada. Developed by veterinarians, Feliway for cats and D.A.P. for dogs are synthetic pheromones that naturally control and manage pet behavior associated with anxiety, fear, stress or phobias. The pheromones are released into the animal's environment through a diffuser that plugs into an electrical outlet, delivering pheromones 24 hours a day for approximately 30 days of trouble-free treatment. D.A.P. calms dogs by emitting synthetic pheromones that mimic the pheromones of a lactating female dog. By replicating this signal of comfort, D.A.P. helps alleviate fear and stress related behaviors. Feliway replicates the friendly facial pheromones cats use to mark territory when they rub their cheeks against people and objects. Feliway also is available in a pump spray, and a pump spray of D.A.P. will be available in January 2004. These species-specific pheromones don't counteract each other or have any effect on the opposite species or humans in the house.
