Having spent last night listening to fireworks being set off by children in the field behind our house, the Understanding Animals team are delighted by new UK laws that come into force on Monday 22 December 2003. The new law introduced under the Fireworks Act 2003, makes it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to possess a firework in a public place. This finally gives the police powers to stop many of the dangerous firework-related activities which have been blighting UK pets' lives in recent months. Laws preventing the sale of louder fireworks come into force next year, but Understanding Animals believes that it's time to push for an outright ban on the possession of fireworks without a license. We can all cope with a few organised displays in and around November 5th and New Year, but why should our animals have to put up with terrifying bangs every other night?
