Willow is going to Scotland
« on: July 05, 2010, 01:12:29 PM »

We are taking Willow  ( Cocker spaniel ) on holiday with us to Scotland. It is nearly 500 miles in the car. We have identified 3 good places to stop en route, but I was wondering about giving her something to chew. Years ago i used to give her pigs ears which she loved and lasted for ages , but I think they may have upset her tummy which is why I stopped them. I only give her denta stix now which she demolishes in minits.
Any ideas on what I can give her? She doesn't chew the chew toys because they aren't food!

You could give her a Kong filled with something tasty or biscuits. That should keep her amuse without her eating too much to quickly that might upset her tummy. Both our dogs love their Kongs. If you fancy the idea you could try her with it before hand see if she likes it.

Link shows what I mean, but not suggesting you buy from this site as.

Definitely a kong toy is nice treat. A friend of mine traveled her dog too from a very warm place into wet and snowy place. Her dog enjoys few frozen kong toys filled with butter which also might help her dog adapt on new place.

Thanks everyone for your advice etc. We are not going to take her after all. Her back is still not great and it is a big family party going with several young children so we have decided  she will be happier staying with the couple  who she usually stays with when we go abroad. She still cant walk very far and isn't used to getting out of the way of youngsters. I feel much happier now we have made this decision.

Jackie sounds wise if her back is still troubling her.
